WELCOME BACK!!!!

We are only a few weeks into school and already we are scheduled for our visit to the Portland Art Museum and our visit to Tacoma to the Museum of Glass! Not even a full week of school and already I am plotting to get kids out of school. Mwah ha ha! For the first time, fourth grade will be participating in the visit to the Portland Art Museum, scheduled for Thursday, November 29. Fourth grade will be touring the Native American artifacts as part of their unit of study in their home rooms. Fifth and sixth grade will be on the thematic tour of the portrait at the museum, observing scultpures, drawings, photographs and paintings. Seventh and eighth grade will tour an exhibition from the renowned British Museum. The exhibit, The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece, will display the human form through objects from the British Museum’s collection of Greek and Roman sculptures. This collection rarely travels due to its size and value and will be the first stop after its debut in London during the Summer Olympics. We will begin our school year as we always do with our investigation of the line. This year we return again to a unit on cartooning. Students will begin working on line, shading, action, expression, plot and dialogue! Look for a St. Joe's Comic Book in early 2013! Our Art Literacy program will begin with a meeting of Art docents on Thursday, September 27 at 8:30 in the Art room. No skills needed and I provide tasty treats to attendees! This is your chance to earn clock hours and work on art projects in the classroom with your student. No theme has been determined by the eighth grade for our art show on Thursday, May 23, so feel free to bribe and attempt to influence your middle schooler if you have a winning idea! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or are interested in volunteering some time! Best wishes, Ms. Larkin (360) 696.2586 ext. 1401 jenniferl@stjoevan.org

Looking for materials!!

Does anyone have a sheet that they can donate? I'm looking for a top sheet, flat. It will be painted and cut, so harbor no hopes of a return. This will be used for our spring art show.

Also I am going to purchase Dow insulation board - the blue board - unless anyone happens to have some lying around. It is the kind that is available in 4'x8' boards in varying thicknesses from 1'2" to 4" wide. Not the pink board- it has a plastic skin that needs to be peeled off before painted. Again, using for the art show. We need to make a life size Oscar.

Anyone who might be hoarding sheets of plywood - IN ANY CONDITION - we would love to find you.

Also, keep drinking your milk and eating your veggies as we need to get more shoes for our shoe drive!!! Any brand, any size will do. They just need to be sneakers.

Thanks!!
