6-8 Art papers

Well it seems to be a good thing that you have Ms. Atkins and Miss Cestnik in the building because my technological skills involve putting a post it note on my computer screen. Despite wasting the better part of my morning editing the blog only to see that it did not indeed change one iota, I am resorting to listing the papers by "post." Hopefully one of my more technologically gifted colleagues can come to my rescue and help me figure out this goofy problem, but until then, the papers are listed below.... WELCOME BACK!!!!

We are only a few weeks into school and already we are scheduled for our visit to the Portland Art Museum and our visit to Tacoma to the Museum of Glass! Not even a full week of school and already I am plotting to get kids out of school. Mwah ha ha! For the first time, fourth grade will be participating in the visit to the Portland Art Museum, scheduled for Thursday, November 29. Fourth grade will be touring the Native American artifacts as part of their unit of study in their home rooms. Fifth and sixth grade will be on the thematic tour of the portrait at the museum, observing scultpures, drawings, photographs and paintings. Seventh and eighth grade will tour an exhibition from the renowned British Museum. The exhibit, The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece, will display the human form through objects from the British Museum’s collection of Greek and Roman sculptures. This collection rarely travels due to its size and value and will be the first stop after its debut in London during the Summer Olympics. We will begin our school year as we always do with our investigation of the line. This year we return again to a unit on cartooning. Students will begin working on line, shading, action, expression, plot and dialogue! Look for a St. Joe's Comic Book in early 2013! Our Art Literacy program will begin with a meeting of Art docents on Thursday, September 27 at 8:30 in the Art room. No skills needed and I provide tasty treats to attendees! This is your chance to earn clock hours and work on art projects in the classroom with your student. No theme has been determined by the eighth grade for our art show on Thursday, May 23, so feel free to bribe and attempt to influence your middle schooler if you have a winning idea! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or are interested in volunteering some time! Best wishes, Ms. Larkin (360) 696.2586 ext. 1401 jenniferl@stjoevan.org
